Wallpaper Mania

You do know that wallpaper is making a comeback in the world of design, right?  It is and I am happy about that!  After years of having wallpaper myself...when it came time for 'change' and I only wanted painted walls...I felt the entire 'feel' of my home changed! Not that it wasn't a good change, but it just felt so bare to me.  I guess because wallpaper makes a statement, you get use to it, and then all of a sudden it is GONE! Does anyone know what I mean? Of course that's when you add in other things such as more art, mirrors, etc...all the other beautiful things that add that warmth and feeling back into your home.

BUT...I had not really realized just how popular the REMOVABLE wallpaper is also becoming!  I know exactly why too...you aren't 'locked in' to it for years and you certainly don't have the mess and the expense of removing it later. If wallpaper doesn't come off your walls easily (even with a professional) it can make a huge mess and end up costing more than you'd planned.

I headed over to J & M and simply could not believe my eyes! The choices that even they had for removable wallpaper...oh my! 

Here is just a sweet picture of what the right kind of wallpaper can do to transform a room!  And...it's BIRDS and PINK...woo-hoo...two of my faves!

What about some 2" gold dots

Take a look at some others I found simply irresistible...

Wouldn't this be so pretty in a little girl's bedroom...maybe even on just ONE wall.  

I love this chandelier decal here!  Oh, yes please!

This one if you wanted to keep things toned down a bit, but still have some interest and texture.  It would even be nice to use in the back of a bookcase...to add in more charm.

I'm sure this pattern is popular too!

Hum...a great guest bathroom idea perhaps!

I was just thinking also, what a GREAT way to add some pizzazz to a home especially if you RENT.  Sometimes you may feel so limited to what you can do in a home you rent, but this would definitely solve that issue...since it's removable!

How about some gold dots that are a little larger...I think these are 3 inches.  What a lovely foyer idea...ya think?  

And look, you can also wallpaper other items...such as tables!  What a great, easy and affordable way to dress up some furniture you may have.  I love this one here!

Oh my....how cute and creative is this one here?  Where in the world might I use this one?  Not sure I have a place, but perhaps YOU do.

Who could forget the classic b/w wide stripes!  Love this one too!

More fun birds...where to put?  Maybe in a breakfast nook perhaps?

And I simply love these birds...looks like they are really hopping around in the room on the headboard and lamp, doesn't it?

Monday Happiness

Happy Monday dear readers!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are off to a great start in this new work week.  I know we have been 'busy as little bees' around here with design projects...ordering fabric cuttings, wood samples, room layouts, putting together design inspiration boards, hovering over our vendor catalogs for the right mirrors and artwork, etc.....it's crazy, but we LOVE it.  

However, it was a pretty relaxing weekend, giving me time to look through magazines, both tangible and online and in doing so I found something to share with you...in case you didn't get a chance to see it.

THUS, the name of today's topic...Monday Happiness!  Doesn't THIS picture just say that?  I fell in love with this charming little house (well, it may not really be all that little!) and the lovely pink and purple blooms...and of course, that palm tree in the front yard.  It was just too lovely to not read on further...which I did.  This is the Florida home of Betsy Speert, a former designer that closed her design business to follow other passions...designing furniture, selling antiques and writing books.  

She found this lovely hat rack at an antique store...isn't it unusual?  Fun thing about this piece is that she embellished the middle of it with an image from a tambourine.  Talk about creative....who would have "thunk"  of that?

She didn't want the typical tropical Florida home so she went for a little more of a West Indies vibe.  All of the walls are wrapped with grasscloth too.  Isn't this living room a great blend of new and old?

These two chairs here were the first pieces she bought, which set the tone for the entire house...and they were an eBay find at that.

I just had to show you this close-up...I just adore it.   Isn't it cheerful?  Oh, and even these were all eBay finds.  It makes me want to go shopping on eBay....now!

Would you believe these are MORE eBay finds...oh my!  I love them all, but especially this lamp!!  I'd say she definitely now has a nice, colorful tropical flair in here.

Look how well all of her colors flow from room to room....no doubt it's the interior designer in her!!  Check out the faux bamboo detailing of this desk...and oh how I love this fabric.

Now, are you ready....where is the DIY'r inYOU?  This group of artwork here is all paint-by-numbers that she did.  What a great idea...she said it would be fun to do and it would add that little bit of "silliness" that she wanted in her vacation home.  I wonder HOW LONG it took her to do all of these?

Simplicity in this room, but look at this antique table and guess what the chandelier is made from.  Creative Betsy turned an antique drying rack into a...chandelier! 

 

I just adored seeing this bedroom here.  Such a soft color palette and I loved that it was surrounded by BIRDS.

A closer view...and another fact that I found interesting.  The bird prints were originally way to "crisp and white" for this room...so she scrubbed them with tea (sort of like tea-dying) to give them more of an antiqued feeling.  How neat is that?

And the bathroom is even in grasscloth...and I love it.  These were dark mahogany mirrors that she repainted to give them more of the tropical look.  I love how she popped the green in with plates and small pictures above (and in between!) them.   Look at this vanity chair...it fits right in with her style!

As if all of that wasn't enough...this charming little bedroom just STOLE MY HEART!  First, I think I just love the fabric in here...but mixed with the grasscloth walls and the sisal rug and the right combinations of antiques, the clean white bedding, shutters on the window...ok, enough, I'll admit...it is "SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE" in every way!!

But, HOLD ON...it gets even better.....look!

The other side of this room.  I was at a "loss for words" when I saw this...and spent the next thirty minutes, or longer. examining every inch of it!

Can you tell how well the colors flow throughout the home?  Well done!!

And then I found out that if this room weren't enough, just the way it's designed and decorated...it's right off from the POOL.  I am in LOVE, my friends!

She's thought of EVERY detail...even down to carrying the colors out here.  Look at the pool tile...and of course the cushions!  I also read that outside curtains and awnings have since been added.  If I were visiting her, I'd be back and forth...inside to outside...because that's how much I loved every inch of this tropical, West Indies feel Florida home....how about YOU?

Wallpaper Inspiration

The name of today's post initially began when I decided to share some great new wallpaper designs with you...but then I checked my inbox and found that it contained some great ways (easy too!) to use wallpaper in your home...some of which you may not have even thought of before...so, I decided to share these ideas today instead.

From now on...don't throw away that extra roll of wallpaper...and, if you don't have any wallpaper, then I bet you may just want to run out after seeing these and find yourself a roll that you are in love with!

Who would have thought of this?  You might even have an old side table that you've been wanting to paint and update...why not add some pizzazz to the top of it...with wallpaper!

Perhaps you have a bookcase - ok, maybe not on wheels - that you can give a little spice to...what do ya think about this one?  You can paint the interior with a coordinating color of paint.  Wow!

Now I loved this idea...wallpaper a folding screen!  Oh, not to mention...I LOVE this wallpaper too!

Oh my!  This is gorgeous...AND "simply irresistible"...a headboard covered in wallpaper.  Now THIS...would take some patience and creative talent.  

See...these are all such great ideas!  Are your creative juices flowing yet?  

We've talked about this idea before...and look at what GREAT artwork it makes!  And I have to say, I LOVE that red lamp and red chair with it!  Very striking! (Oh and leave it to me to say - even the little RED book along with the RED sunglasses - such attention to detail for this shot!)

And this my dears...sheer perfection!  I love this...see the wallpapered flat panels on the doors...genius! But the entire wall of bookcases is stunning...styled to perfection in my book!

Who Does This Home Belong To?

Have you laid eyes on the June issue of Architectural Digest yet?  If not, you are in for a real treat....guess who's new home is featured?  I won't tell you yet, but their former design style was known as "Contemporary Goth" - if you can imagine - being described by the home owner as having too many possessions (much like a furniture shop).  Since their children are grown and gone from home the couple decided to make a move.  They found their dream home and with the help of interior designer, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, their new home was completely transformed in style.  You will not believe whose home this is AFTER you see the photos.  I am "drooling" over the style, colors, mood and views of this lovely home. Take a peak...

What lovely leather porter's chairs in this amazing foyer!

The living room is painted in Benjamin Moore's Antique White, which as you know has been around for years...but look at the soft colors that were added.

Check out these great sliding barn doors...and I love that they incorporated a beautiful crystal chandelier with it - ooh la la!

Love the "pop" of purple in this fabulous dining room and of course everything else! You KNOW I simply love custom draperies...so I am admiring this soft puddled look here.

A little "vintage Americana" in the kitchen...check out the cash register on the island. Things of this sort, along with the animal weathervane ornaments, certainly do add a flair of personality to this space.  What's not to love!

Ok...now for some "hints" of who this home may belong to...take a close look as we venture upstairs. I'm sure you can already tell it must be someone of "fame"...with these representing the husband.

And now to showcase a little of "her" fame in this office space inside the home....hum...Grammy Awards found here!  Oh, back to design....don't you just love this mirrored desk?

This is the other side of her office with a cozy little retreat designed just for her...well, maybe not, maybe just this little Pomeranian, which by the way is one of their TWELVE dogs!  Don't you love these little ""pops" of fun color too.

And take a look at this stunning master bedroom...oh my goodness!  A mirrored four-postered bed and "unmatched" tables for night stands (a great look, by the way). The wallpaper in here is so absolutely gorgeous that there is no need to hang artwork on the walls...they speak for themselves.

Now...remember I said I was also drooling over the VIEW... here's why...

Can you see why now?  Amazing isn't it?
