Project Sneak Peek

Here's a peek at another project that's under way...still more design choices to make as this is just in the beginning stages.  It's fun to mix styles for a more eclectic look.  I'm loving the serenity in the soft color scheme and I think our client will too! 

Next we'll decide on window treatment styles (I already have an idea in mind!) and a beautiful rug.  Our client has some furniture that we've decided to keep and work into this design also.  In the end, it will all come together beautifully!

Side note:  I just noticed that the loop fringe for the throw pillows looks 'silver' on here but it's actually blue mingled in! So pretty with the fabrics! The solid fabric shown even has a hint of a blue shimmer - quite stunning in person!

End of The Year Happenings

It's nice to know that many of our valued clients will get to enjoy their new designs...all in time for the Christmas holiday. Here's a little peek of some most recent ones.

 A little Viz Glass in a wall niche will surely add in some sparkle!

How about a renovated kitchen including custom painted cabinets (of which I should show you a 'before' photo), new tile backsplash installed vertically, and a painted chandelier which totally changed the look of it (yes, painted the existing one!).

Client Before and After...Custom Draperies

Hi!  I hope each of you are enjoying your week and hopefully, in most locations, are now enjoying a little bit of spring-like weather.

Remember the client project I shared with you here and then here? Well, we finally installed phase #1 of these custom draperies last week! I thought I'd just share some of them with you today so you could see the finished product....the bedroom will hopefully be finished up and installed by the end of next week.

Notice...we changed the blinds out too in a few rooms.  They now have Kirsch Top-Down-Bottom-Up Honeycomb Shades in colors of her preference!

MASTER BATHROOM

Another shade change here too.  The darker toffee brown reflects all the brown-tones in her bath.  We will also be addressing that wall space above the picture that you see here too.  The valance fabric had just enough blue in it to allow us to keep the art she already had here.

Now her laundry room is a 'happy' place to work...the valance ties in with the runner and artwork in this room and makes it looked completed.

 Almost finished here...just a little 'hand-dressing' needed.  This fabric (it has the gold and the black running through it) looks SO good with his office rug...Remember it?

It's all really pretty....and reflects the look they wanted....but, in my opinion...I saved the best for last...take a look!

I love this corner view that peeks into the kitchen too!

This one was our 'tricky' one (not really, just very detailed!)...tight space at right side, but needing to soften and frame window...not to mention hide that stack of vertical blinds on the right side.  I also wanted to 'soften' the entire top of the vertical blind headrail...but couldn't come down into the doorway too low either.  It turned out just as I designed and imagined it...plus our clients were 'oh so happy' with it!

 Hopefully you noticed her new BLACK honeycomb shade in here...it's really a dramatic look in here with this fabric...and the rug!

 The prints got moved so we could come out farther on each side of the window with the stationary drapery panels...it makes the room look larger.  They also got a fresh coat of BLACK on the frames...which now makes them really 'POP' in the room.

Just another angle of the room so you can see how the PINK lining in the valance pelmets goes with the art here....and the fresh tulips put on her table!

So, that is it for this Phase #1 of installations.  I hope you enjoyed seeing the results of this custom drapery project. It's been a real treat working with these clients...and we have become such good friends along the way!  That's always a BONUS...for me anyway!

Tips for" Softening" your Rooms - Recap

I'm back...honestly I have to say, it's so hard to be faithful to blogging when all my time is tied up being faithful to client projects. I know that those of you who have a design business out there can surely relate, right? I tend to get caught up in all the "details" of each design project...for hours each day! Believe me when I say this...there are tons of details in this business!  Some people use to tell me that it "must be nice to be a designer and work with all that pretty fabric and accessories all day long"....uh hum, yea right!  It's not just about the "pretties"....that part is great, but there are so many other aspects of it behind the scenes that nobody ever sees...or perhaps can even fathom.  But, I do promise to pop in here with the blog as often as I can...so please keep stopping by.

For a few weeks we've been talking about ways you can 'soften' your room.  For a little recap of a few things, today we will take a photo of a room that I used as an example of a 'hard and cold' room in the beginning of this series...and we will add to the room what elements we've discussed so far.

It's simply amazing how just a few extra 'touches' can totally transform a room into soft and cozy! What element do YOU think added the most to this room?

Tips for" Softening" your Rooms - Part Four

Happy Saturday!  Do you have big plans for the weekend?  We certainly do, but after a week of non-stop design on client projects I decided to pop in this morning and bring you more tips for "softening" your rooms.  So grab you another cup of coffee or tea...and let's get started, shall we!

Today I'm going to talk about my very FAVORITE way to "soften" your room....can you guess what this is?  If you've been around forever then you will know...WINDOW TREATMENTS!  I simply love each and every opportunity I have to work with clients on window treatments for their home.  I do!  We mostly do custom treatments, but have on many occasions helped clients with ready-made ones too...so no matter which way YOU choose to go...the after-effect will be well worth it!!!  Your room will be instantly..."softened".

Here is a lovely room that is beautifully 'softened' but notice that the windows are also softened.  Even though the fabric color is a neutral and a close match to the walls (except up top)...they are dressed.  Why, you may ask.  Imagine this room otherwise for just a moment - can you?  The wall area would NOT be as 'warm and cozy' nor would it really be captured as a 'part' of this room...can you see that?  The walls would remain COLD and HARD (see Part One here for explanation of these terms in relation to interior design) while the rest of the furnishings on the floor were cozy from the other ways they've been 'softened'.  I hope I am explaining this in words the way I hope to!!  Another thing to notice is that this simple look of stationary pleated drapery panels can be achieved easily...whether custom or ready-made. Custom panels aren't that expensive really.  It will take some fabric yardage, of course, but the labor on panels is not outrageous as it can be with all the fancy window treatment designs that can be created.  So, maybe this is a great start for you....STATIONARY PANELS.

Here is the same pleated panel style but with a roman shade topper added.  This is a great look especially if you'd like to bring in another color on the window.  I like to layer the treatments especially when we have those ugly headrails showing from blinds...this is the perfect easy solution...to even 'soften' up those hard headrails too.  This valance style can also be found ready-made.  Do YOU have any headrails that need to be covered?  Just a thought!

I love this room!  It has all of our elements we've discussed thus far to perfectly 'soften' the room...florals, greenery, pillows and rug.  The ceiling in this room are really high...even more of a need to dress those windows.  They are indeed dressed...with white roman shades.  Again, not much fabric or color added...but 'softened'.  So now we see that no matter how much...or how little...it does help with the entire "feel" of the room.  Are ya with me?

This one should definitely wake you up this morning -Ha!  It's yellow, bright and cheerful.  Almost a breath of Spring, isn't it?  Once again, the many elements of 'softening' are in this room but notice the window is also softened.  Now, imagine with me again if you will.  Otherwise, with no window treatment we'd have... hard door, hard wall, hard window, hard bookcases...that is what that one wall and corner area would be...HARD.  With this lovely window treatment mimicking the colors in the room and stripes on the walls it comfortably blends in with the rest of the room AND does the trick of...'softening', cozying up, warming up that area...thus effecting this entire room!

Here is a room that is beautiful...no doubt, however, it has very little 'softening' going on in here.  I know this is a clean, crisp look that some of you may adore, but the one 'softening' element in here...adds alot in and of itself...otherwise it would be incredibly COLD AND HARD.  With a lovely shaped valance in yellow (to go with these great yellow accessories) and pleated drapery panels...voila!  It is 'softened' indeed.

And the best for the last...only because it's view is THE OCEAN...and there is PINK in this room!  So refreshing and inspiring to me!!  This is an easy one to imagine it not having any window treatments, right?  Yes, the view is magnificent, but oh my, how COLD and HARD this room would look and feel...without these lovely drapery panels all around.  Job well done - superbly 'softened' with a little pop of color on the side-trim and at the bottom.  I could drop my plans for the day and spend the entire weekend in this one room (wonder why - Ha!).

So that my friends is yet another simple way to 'soften' your room.  Will you try it?  If so, I'm almost certain you will instantly see and feel the effects of...WINDOW TREATMENTS!

Friday Fun!

With the weather here being so cold and damp (no snow yet!!) that makes it a great day to browse through the new issue of Coastal Living...I plan to devour it, page by page, over the weekend! I thought I'd share a few photos with you that I am currently swooning over...

I love these bright cheerful colors here...even the floral fabric too.  I adore how there are cottage effects with the beams, shades, and sisal rug (reminiscent of the SAND!) and how well these bright inspiring colors work with all of that.  Check out the green tray on the table...and the green turtle...to tie in the green ottomans a bit more!  Ah, "simply irresistible" and very well done!

I believe I'll have to re-think my growing tired of a white kitchen...with pops of color in the striped rug, cushions...along with a few accessories and a lightly painted ceiling...I think I'll change my vote.  How about these great pendants over the island...ooh-la-la!  I am loving this cottage kitchen!

Is this dining room fabulous or what?  I love the chandelier, the rug, and these gorgeous chairs with the pattern on the back!  It's toned down in this room, but still packs a punch along with the rest of the house! 

I usually tend to notice the DETAILS at once...that's just me!  How many of you would dare to put this rug (with pink) in this room (with all the red)?  Also, notice the band of solid turquoise along the bottom of the drapery panels and at the bottom of the window shade.  The headboard sports a trim as well and has covered buttons...well thought out indeed!  It's "details" like this that make the difference and is usually a part of our custom interior design service too. 

 

I love this fresh green with all the white...now "this" pops!  Don't be afraid to change any style mirror you may have with fresh paint for a brand new look in your room.  Give it a try!

Now this room is just plain "sassy" in my eyes...I LOVE it!  Of course these walls remind me alot of what we now have in our own home...but popped with all this navy...yes, please!  Again, would you EVER think of putting "this" rug in here?  Be honest now.  But I like it.  Also, more details...a ruffled bedskirt and draperies with contrasting coral (or so it looks) band at top.  And one last thing...since I'm on a roll...I adore this headboard...I'll take one for my guest bedroom!

So there you have it, a peek into the new issue of Coastal Living.  If you don't have your copy yet you may just want to pick one up for the weekend!  A quiet corner, cozy chair with afghan, hot cup of tea...and this new issue...all the makings of some great weekend R&R.  What are YOUR plans?

Things I LOVE...Day #15

Today I'm sharing with you my love of mixing FABRICS! This is the most exciting part of my design business...to me that is!  I always enjoy "digging my heels in" to find the perfect pairing of fabrics for our clients. I start by pulling the main fabric choice and then begin selecting possible coordinates to use with it.  Lots of initial choices are usually laid out, but then I do a process of elimination right down to the best possible combo for the client's design project.
