Magic Mirror on the Wall...

"Magic Mirror on the Wall, who is the Fairest one of all?"  Do you recall this famous quote (which is mis-quoted many times as "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall..." even in other films!) This popular saying is from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). This came to mind as I was researching photos for today's topic.  I even actually thought it was "Mirror, Mirror..." until I looked it up (obviously...I wasn't around in 1937 - Ha!).

"Mirrors have come to mean much more than the original 'looking glass'. They are now a part of the decorative scheme of a modern home. By using them, there are no dark, gloomy corners, no drab caverns for halls. There can be a feeling of freedom, light, air, space."  -
Quote from designer Dorothy Draper - 1942

I love the overall eclectic look that a variety of sizes and shapes gives this area. This is probably an idea you wouldn't think of doing, but I think it is quite lovely if done with good taste.

Here is a lovely "triptych" of mirrors. A triptych is a series of three paintings intended to be displayed together, therefore I call this a triptych of mirrors! I love how this makes a WOW factor in the room, and how these "patterned" mirrors are even used with the wallpaper design and all the other patterns in the pillows.  It just SO works here!.

This is a look that can be used in either a contemporary or traditional setting.

OK, first things first...I LOVE the "bling" in this closet...the chandelier! Love it, love it, love it! What a great idea to have this oversize mirror propped up against the wall for a full head-to-toe look in the mornings (or any time!).  Ladies...we all could use this, right?

One mirror hanging on the wall with another one propped in front...what a great, unique look.

I simply love this overlay of a mirror on a large plain mirrored wall...what "life" it brings to the room.  I'd say this one was a "magical mirror" for sure to this room.

How lovely are these mirrors first of all...but notice they are hung from the ceiling in front of WINDOWS!

One thing's for sure, there is not a lack of mirror use in this room (even the coffee table is mirrored). Used like this on a wall really opens up the space beyond belief!

Yet another great wall idea...and how it also opens up this small space. Oh, and you've got to look at the most unusual placement of the mirror in front of the fireplace opening. What a great idea for seasons when you don't use the fireplace....I love this unique idea! Another one for the "magical mirror" vote!

Great look in this dining room!

Mirrors can be used in the kitchen area as well.  Here they are displayed on the upper cabinet doors. What a clever idea that I have to admit I have never tried.

I am simply loving these in this red room!

Sunburst mirrors have made their way back! I like the use of three here, instead of just one over the server.  This helps tie this entire wall together. (Love the tablescape and rug too, by the way! Yea, I do always notice all the "details"-that's just how I'm wired!)

Another great look of using more than one sunburst...great job Tobi!

And...this wins my vote for "magical mirror" and is also the "fairest of them all", for creativity, I suppose.  How about this...combo of all shapes, sizes, finishes, framed, unframed, etc...on the CEILING??? This is the Bella Italian Restaurant. Please, by all means share your thoughts on this one.  Honestly, it is very different, but I am not really sure I like it.  Help me out here, will ya?

I certainly do hope this has expanded your creativity somewhat and you may now be ready to try using your mirror(s) in different and unique ways other than the typical...hanging one mirror centered over a sofa, table, or bed.  Be creative and have fun with mirrors and you will see that indeed they can be "magical" in your rooms!

Here's to wishing you a blessed day that is also..."Simply Irresistible" in every way!  Ta-Ta!
