ROOM REVEAL: Guest Bath

Remember one of the guest bedrooms we installed here...

(Major glare...so sorry!)

And then the same client's other guest bedroom we just posted on Monday (if you missed it, just back up one post!)

I had promised to reveal the guest bathroom that is in between these two guest bedrooms...so here are a few "phone" shots I took.   Now she has three adjoining rooms that flow nicely from one room to the other...all with a balance of color and patterns...and just HER style!

Accessories on left side of sink...

Right side of sink wall...she already had this little picture and we wanted to use it.  This spot was perfect!

This rug is an indoor/outdoor rug (which is great for a bathroom!) that we custom designed to not only "pop" a bit more of the red, but also to tie in the blue...especially since the client's carpet she had was blue in the adjoining bedrooms (you can see a little of the carpet here).

Remember this stripe fabric on our design board?  Well, here it is as a custom shower curtain...made much fuller than the standard 72" wide ready-made curtains.  She loved it!  The valance is attached and then trimmed out with red brushed fringe.

We also put a smaller rug, like the larger one at the sink, in the toilet area...here's a shot of it with the shower curtain.  This picture really doesn't show the colors in the shower curtain well, but in person...it looks really nice.

Here are the accessories we put over the toilet...the artwork ties in the colors in the fabrics nicely...as well as the bedroom paint colors (which is like the top mat in this artwork).  It also tied in all the colors well (including the blue wall color she already had in here).

Another close-up shot of the shower curtain...

This is the wall across from the toilet wall.  We added two smaller prints here.

And that is it...the small guest bath reveal.  I hope you enjoyed a little peek into some of our design projects.  It's always so much fun seeing all the hard work and planning come to reality...and seeing happy clients!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Stylish Guest Bathrooms

I'm starting today with telling on myself...an old story.  My mom has always told me that from the time I was a really little girl and we were out somewhere I always had to go to the bathroom...every time we went to a different place.  It could be the fabric shop (she sewed), the mall, downtown, a restaurant, a friend's home, etc...it didn't matter, I always "had to go" visit the bathroom.  Now here is the funny part...I would go in and look it over in detail (an early sign of an interior designer maybe??).  Sometimes I may actually use the bathroom, but on rare occasion.  I simply just wanted to check out the bathrooms!  I would say things like "ugh, this bathroom is just not pretty", "oh, I don't like this color at all",  "yuk, this bathroom is nasty", or for those special ones I'd light up and say "wow, this bathroom is really pretty...I like it" (not to mention these are the only ones I'd ever use!).  She said I was fascinated with BATHROOMS...imagine that!  I was too young to really remember this, but to be honest, I am still really picky about which bathrooms I will use!!!

In getting ready for today's blog topic this came to mind for some strange reason...because it's bathrooms no doubt.  I just thought I'd share that funny story with you. Were any of you ever obsessed with anything like this at such a young age?  Now, let's take a look at some guest bathrooms...

Provide a Mirror
Love the colors and the shutter door fronts...and check out that mirror detail in how it's cut to fit the walls!

Accent with Antiques
Double sinks with antique glass front cabinets...different, but lovely.  How about this sassy little hand towel stand they used...how creative is that!

Pair a Bold Color with Clean White
These apple green walls would brighten up any guest bath...and I love the cute window treatment.

Install Wallpaper
How about some graphic wallpaper to spruce things up a bit?

How about these bold stripes and geometric flooring...this one is quite unique!

Black and white...stunning!

A little more traditional style with this gorgeous wallpaper added.

So...how do these bathrooms rate in your mind?  Any styles or colors that you would like?  It is always a good idea to have a styled guest bathroom for your special guests as well as some toiletry items  that they can use.  Be sure to have nice fresh towels and you can even go out of the way and supply terry bath robes...treat them like this though and they may never want to leave!!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Magic Mirror on the Wall...

"Magic Mirror on the Wall, who is the Fairest one of all?"  Do you recall this famous quote (which is mis-quoted many times as "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall..." even in other films!) This popular saying is from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). This came to mind as I was researching photos for today's topic.  I even actually thought it was "Mirror, Mirror..." until I looked it up (obviously...I wasn't around in 1937 - Ha!).

"Mirrors have come to mean much more than the original 'looking glass'. They are now a part of the decorative scheme of a modern home. By using them, there are no dark, gloomy corners, no drab caverns for halls. There can be a feeling of freedom, light, air, space."  -
Quote from designer Dorothy Draper - 1942

I love the overall eclectic look that a variety of sizes and shapes gives this area. This is probably an idea you wouldn't think of doing, but I think it is quite lovely if done with good taste.

Here is a lovely "triptych" of mirrors. A triptych is a series of three paintings intended to be displayed together, therefore I call this a triptych of mirrors! I love how this makes a WOW factor in the room, and how these "patterned" mirrors are even used with the wallpaper design and all the other patterns in the pillows.  It just SO works here!.

This is a look that can be used in either a contemporary or traditional setting.

OK, first things first...I LOVE the "bling" in this closet...the chandelier! Love it, love it, love it! What a great idea to have this oversize mirror propped up against the wall for a full head-to-toe look in the mornings (or any time!).  Ladies...we all could use this, right?

One mirror hanging on the wall with another one propped in front...what a great, unique look.

I simply love this overlay of a mirror on a large plain mirrored wall...what "life" it brings to the room.  I'd say this one was a "magical mirror" for sure to this room.

How lovely are these mirrors first of all...but notice they are hung from the ceiling in front of WINDOWS!

One thing's for sure, there is not a lack of mirror use in this room (even the coffee table is mirrored). Used like this on a wall really opens up the space beyond belief!

Yet another great wall idea...and how it also opens up this small space. Oh, and you've got to look at the most unusual placement of the mirror in front of the fireplace opening. What a great idea for seasons when you don't use the fireplace....I love this unique idea! Another one for the "magical mirror" vote!

Great look in this dining room!

Mirrors can be used in the kitchen area as well.  Here they are displayed on the upper cabinet doors. What a clever idea that I have to admit I have never tried.

I am simply loving these in this red room!

Sunburst mirrors have made their way back! I like the use of three here, instead of just one over the server.  This helps tie this entire wall together. (Love the tablescape and rug too, by the way! Yea, I do always notice all the "details"-that's just how I'm wired!)

Another great look of using more than one sunburst...great job Tobi!

And...this wins my vote for "magical mirror" and is also the "fairest of them all", for creativity, I suppose.  How about this...combo of all shapes, sizes, finishes, framed, unframed, etc...on the CEILING??? This is the Bella Italian Restaurant. Please, by all means share your thoughts on this one.  Honestly, it is very different, but I am not really sure I like it.  Help me out here, will ya?

I certainly do hope this has expanded your creativity somewhat and you may now be ready to try using your mirror(s) in different and unique ways other than the typical...hanging one mirror centered over a sofa, table, or bed.  Be creative and have fun with mirrors and you will see that indeed they can be "magical" in your rooms!

Here's to wishing you a blessed day that is also..."Simply Irresistible" in every way!  Ta-Ta!

The World of Window Treatments #3

"The world of window treatments" is a fascinating and exciting part of interior design. Window treatments can, and often are, used in some very unique ways. Were you able to guess what else they could be used for....any idea? Well, come on, get yourself a nice cup of hot coffee or tea, relax, and let's get started and see!

OK, I know this one is a little "over the top" for most of us, but it does represent another way we can decorate with window treatments.....especially the drapery panels we have been discussing. What a clever way to bring elegance into the bathroom and look at how it makes the tub the focal point of the room...not the fireplace, but the beautiful tub area. It's hard to tell, but more than likely the top of these panels have small grommets sewn in for the hooks to go through......what a fabulous look!

Here we have another bath, with a little more "relaxed" feeling, which also shows how drapery panels can be used to create custom shower curtains. In this one, a valance has been added to match the valance over the small window.

Now can you guess what other use we might can find for drapery panels? I won't keep you guessing...

Isn't this truly "Simply Irresistible"? Custom panels (and valances) are a great way to create a focal point over the bed. They can be used with or without a headboard. Many times the window treatment used in this fashion actually IS the headboard. Here they are used with headboards and can be seen through the open weave pattern in the wood.

Here we have not only the fabric panels behind the headboard, but also panels on all four corners of the bed. In this particular design, a simple flat valance is added all the way around three sides. This is all created with our basic drapery panels shirred onto the rods.....simple, but what a statement it makes in the room.

Another beautiful creation behind the fabric headboard to frame out the bed. It is done to fit between the two side windows making the entire wall flow together. Here, a solid fabric was used, but you could use a coordinating fabric and have a few throw pillows made in the same fabric to toss on the bed as well. The pillows would be used to "splash" that same fabric onto the bed (repeating the fabric in the room is a design tip).

And.....one last creative way to use our custom drapery panels....Bet you never would have guessed this one!

These plush panels are used here around this gazebo to create that special place...a retreat to "paradise" and can be used right in your own back yard. Panels used in this way create a cozy "room" outside with nature. This one makes me want to grab a good book along with a glass of iced tea and retreat here for the rest of the day! How 'bout you?

This will conclude our section on basic drapery panels. I hope these ideas and suggestions have inspired you to add panels in your own home or office. Go ahead, try it...you will be amazed at the difference it makes! Next time, we'll be taking a look at yet another fascinating aspect in our "World of Window Treatment" series...you will also find it to be "Simply Irresistible....Designs".
