Design-A-Room (Day #4)

Hello...welcome back to our Day #4 about building our room design. We've been slammed with work for clients (a good thing though!) so we've missed a few days...when that happens, just know we are working on "real" design plans and projects (we do alot of full-service design) and we'll be back asap.  With that in mind, let's get started...

We have decided that in order to ground the room a little more we are in need of a large piece of furniture...to add some balance to the overall design ... and ... some storage and bookcase areas.  So, we've come up with this...

Miranda Bookcase with Hutch

A lovely bookcase with some storage behind the doors (available here).  This will be a great addition to the room as we can accessorize the shelves and pop some color in there as well...sounds like a plan, right?

Now, we will definitely need some more seating in this room...and I want this room to be bright and bold...so with that in mind...take a look...
Hickory Chair Paris Club Chair

How about using a pair of these Hickory Chair Paris Club Chairs in this fabulous, bright and bold orange!  Hickory Chair has a great website that allows you to customize pieces of furniture with most any fabric and you can see how it will look finished.  That's what we did...picked our chair style then selected our fabric...and voila! Can you see these in our room along with that new fabric we used on the sofa pillows?  I say...yes, yes, yes!  Let's do it!

This is how our room now looks on Day #4...what do YOU think?

Build-A-Room #1

With it being Friday and also Mother's Day weekend it was all I could do to stop myself from presenting this room with a few accessories (you know, the pretty things that truly "make" the room!)...but I did...so no surprises yet.  Let's finish the other aspects first and then we'll move on to that...so stay tuned!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day ... and...

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there!!

Things I Love...Day #13

What little secret do I want to share with you today about what I love?  Oh, I know!  I love...POCKETBOOKS (handbags, as some of you may call them!).  I have had "a thing" for pocketbooks ever since I can remember...probably since I was one year old or so...no joke!  I have.  I cannot go into any store without browsing through the wide selections (just ask my hubby...even when he's with me I still can't resist!) of these ever-wonderful fashion accessories.  I am what some may call...obsessed with them!  I'd carry a new one each day...if I didn't have to change out everything (such a chore some days!).

Yes, it's PINK!

The more "bling"...the better!

Bold colors are always a nice look!

A few "ruffles" can sassy up the look too!

Silver is my fave, for now anyway.

A fun one!

Now you know...I have a true obsession for pocketbooks!  How about YOU...do you love them as much as  me?

Now...go have yourself a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Lovely "Pops" of the Color of the Year

Do you remember us talking about the chosen color of the year for 2012...Tangerine Tango?  I love this color...it's bold and fresh.  I could use a good dose of this lovely color today...how about YOU?

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea House Living Room
This room "pops" this color in the lamp shades (aren't they great!!), the contrast border on the drapery panels, and on the pillows.

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea House Living Room Sitting Area
Another great way to add in this bright and bold color (or any color for that matter) is to use it in some small accessories...like books or book covers.  You can even cover some of the books you may already have with "jackets" that you can make yourself in paper that is this color...how easy is that for that extra "pop" of fun.

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea House Dining Room
Here is another example of just some simple ways to add in this color...even with flowers!

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea House Justin Gaffrey Painting
"Tangerine" Tango...then why not display the color with the fruit?  This is always a nice touch on the kitchen counter tops.

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea Downstairs Master Bedroom
If you want a little stronger "bold" in your room you can add it on the walls and bedding.

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea House Downstairs Master Bathroom
A bold dash of this color in artwork is another great way to add some "pop" in a room.  If you are a little afraid to introduce a new color in your room this can be a great way to do it.

2009 Southern Living Texas Idea House Laundry Room
And ladies...how much more fun would laundry be if we added in some bright fun colors to the laundry area...a cheerful, bright place? I believe it would make all the difference in the world to tackle this otherwise dreaded chore.  Try it!

And "if" this is a color you can handle...it's actually a great look painted on a wall.  Could you...would you...be this daring?

Now I LOVE these colorful bar stools in this white kitchen.  This is a wonderful way to add in this color!

Or...pop some fun into your room with a great rug like this!

And gourd lamps, which by the way I still love...in this color...what fun!  Love the garden stool  too!

More fun with this color in nightstands...what fun in here!  Could you try this way?  I believe I could.

Now, this tile I absolutely LOVE...do you?  What a great way to spruce up any bathroom!

Or...maybe you are daring enough to even greet your guests with this bold color that is full of energy...at the front door itself.

Well, I believe this should give us lots of energy to start off our brand new week...don't you?  What is your take on this new color of the year?  Do you like it...or dislike it?  Could you use a little of this color in your surroundings this year...with colors that you may already have (such a blue, black, or maybe even green, etc.)?  It CAN happen you know!  Make your dreams a reality this year!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Relaxed Fit

Don't you just love this "carefree" feeling in this room?  I surely do! I admire this bold stripe rug that anchors the area and the simplicity of this table.  Put this with the mixed colorful chairs (gotta love it) and dash of colors in the throw pillows, along with the plain white walls and window treatments....and voila!  You now have all the makings of a relaxed and carefree design...that is no doubt..."Simply Irresistible".

Here's to you a relaxed and colorful day!

Adding Color without Paint

I saw an article that was so inspiring, even to me, that I thought I'd share some of it with you.  Here are a few simple examples of how you can add color to your rooms...even if you are leary of putting color on your walls.  As I said yesterday, sometimes even just a few small and simple changes can make such an impact on your rooms! Take a look...

Pink mirrors and frames on dresser
How about painting some mismatched frames for that pop of color.  You can paint them all the same or use several coordinating colors.  And...don't forget something as simple as changing the knobs on your furniture (or cabinets!) to pop some fresh color.  I call this one "Simply Irresistible"...and you KNOW I'm a-lovin' this PINK!!!

Flower Lamp Shade
How about a lampshade revamp?  What a neat way to add that flair and color...can be another DIY project!

Red Tulips in living room
And of course...flowers are always a fun way to bring in color and "loveliness" to a room.  We always seem to add flowers when we design projects. This is a simple and economical way to make a dramatic impact.  What I love most is that flowers always "soften" those hard surfaces. A "must" to me in interior design!

Tabletop palette
An eye-catching bright table top is a sure way to add color to your room and can easily be changed. This would most certainly pop some much needed color in an otherwise neutral room.

Lemons, Oranges on serving dishes

Kitchen island with flowers
This is a great way to pop a burst of color (and "soften") especially in your kitchen. I love the use of bowls, compotes, and glass vases to showcase fresh fruits or produce and flowers...what a statement this makes!  Want to give it a try?

 green tile backplash in kitchen
Speaking of kitchens...nothing pops color quite like some glass tile backsplash...ooooh la la!  What a dramatic effect in this white kitchen!

Green shelves in kitchen
Even though this is shown in another kitchen (and it's green again!) this is a great way to pop some color in "any" room.  How about giving an old piece of furniture a make-over by splashing on a fresh new color and using it in your room somewhere.  What a great "pop"...don't you think?

floating shelves and white table
Have a neutral room?  Just add some colorful artwork (OK, and just maybe a couple of colorful pillows!).  How simple is this and what a drastic change of mood in this room it made!

Blue cabinet interior
And last but not least...if you can't bare to put color on the walls...how about at least a little color in those built-ins?  Now, imagine if the back of this corner cabinet was left white...would it make such an impact?  Absolutely not!  I love how it "pops" the entire area and ties in so nicely with that wonderful window valance.  This is voted my "fav" of the day...which one do you like best?  I'd love to hear from you and if you may be willing to try and pop some color in any of these easy ways we've seen here today.

Thanks for stopping by ...
Make it a "Simply Irresistible" Day!
