Beautiful Winter Tablescape

I think winter months would be a little easier to tolerate if we surround ourselves with beautiful things we love (and people we love too, of course!) in our homes. Since we tend to spend more time indoors during this season (well maybe not so much here in sunshiny Florida) beautiful designs can help keep us inspired! Take a look at a lovely winter tablescape...

The sparkle on the table could remind you of 'ice' for these winter months...Brrr! So beautiful though.

What a great way to use all of those special handmade doilies so many of us have inherited from our grandmothers and great-grandmothers.  Just use them all the way down your table to make a 'custom' runner overlay. 

A little texture on the table with these chargers and the colors here almost remind me of ... the sea and sand!  Now that's a WARMING thought for these cold winter days you may be experiencing!

Almost Time to Celebrate

I bet many of you are making plans for your Fourth of July celebration, right? Are any of you hosting a get-together?  If so, I bet I know the color scheme....that's a "no brainer"...red, white and blue! 

Take a look at a few great finds for this occasion...

Paper lanterns...what fun they can add to your outdoor space.

Maybe add in a couple of red wicker chairs - aren't they lovely?

And we always need a pop in color with the table runner or tablecloth...like this dot and star runner.

I was immediately drawn to these r/w/b striped candles which are sure to be a hit on any table.

And who doesn't want to add a beverage tub to the party...a fun and easy way to keep your drinks cold and accessible to your guests!

Softening Your Table-Tops Part 3

Glad you could make it back for more ideas on table-top softening.  If you missed the first two parts be sure to take a moment and read about those tips too.  Who knows, you may just have a few tables in your home that are in need of a little "softening" right now.

Today...we start with moss spheres.  These are really hot right now and work great to bring a little "softening" to your table-tops. They come in a variety of sizes so I'm sure you can find the right sizes you need.  Smaller ones like these can be put in one of your lovely bowls (even in colorful porcelain bowls) and displayed on one of your tables. 

Or just simply place one atop a stack of books...

Then...the large ones can be displayed just free-standing like these here on the bottom shelf.  I know the top has a floral which softens it, but these spheres do the trick on the bottom...can you tell?  It just has a "softer" flow about it.  I think these are great!

Now let's go ahead and give you another "softening" tip...did you know that adding fabric benches under your tables can also do the trick...well, take a look.  Now, I know this table does have some greenery to soften it, but I wanted to use it to show you that the fabrics also soften the effect. What do you think?

Here's one without any floral or greenery...only hard surfaces.  See how the fabric does indeed soften the entire area?


And now this one to end our series on softening your table-tops...this one has three of the softening "tricks of the trade" all put together.  The floral (or here...greenery), a sphere (even though it isn't a moss sphere) and upholstered benches under the table....all of which make for great ways to "soften" any table. Oh, and we could certainly add a lovely tassel to this bust...or just lay it around the base of it...and then we'd have all four  of our "softening tips!  Don't ya think that would add a bit of flair to him too? Yes, I could see it!

"Softening" Your Table-Tops Part 2

Now for more tips on "softening" those table-tops! Today we will look at ways to use tassels to do the trick...yes, tassels. One way is to attach a tassel to the accessory, such as this box shown here.  Another great way is to simply lay the tassel on a stack of books...it's a great look and you will see how the tassel really does "soften" the area. Try it! 

Or you can hang the tassel on the furniture piece itself to soften the look...it really sounds to simple to be true, but it is.

And now for a way you may have already tried...on a lamp. Even though this photo has flowers as well, the tassel alone would have softened too.

Or just a fringed lampshade...

Here is yet another trick...drape the tassels around your porcelain accessories or even at the base of your candlesticks!

Remember I said earlier to lay one on a stack of books?  Well, here the tassel was just tied around some standing books...a great look and it gives that "softer" look to the whole table!

"Softening" Hard Surface Areas - #1

Have you ever really looked at your table-tops in your home and noticed whether or not the surfaces just looked "hard"?  Hard... meaning all hard objects and nothing to "soften" the look. This happens to be one of our pet peeves in design and is really an important element that is so often overlooked. We always try to "soften" these hard surfaces in each of our design projects we do. Today, I will feature Part 1 as we begin a little series in which will give you a couple of easy tips in how you can give a little TLC to your table-tops that will completely change the effect in your room. 

Take a look at what we mean by a "hard" surface look here...

Now, keep in mind, I am NOT critiquing this wonderful design, by a world famous designer I might add, but just using this as my example of design without "softening". OK, now that I have that clear...

The first way is to simply add flowers.  Most of the time, in our designs, we don't use real flowers, but if you happen to perhaps have a green-thumb and want to use fresh flowers, then by all means....do it!  Take a look at how even artificial flowers just seem to make the tables a little more..."Simply Irresistible"...and soft.

Notice how flowers were used on more than one table in the same room (and even on the bed!)...it's not too much, but very pleasing to the eye. If you eliminated the flowers here you would have left only lots of "hard" surfaces on that far wall.  

Even just the smallest touch of flowers will do the trick!

Don't be afraid to mix flowers with stems...and stagger the heights...what a great look here!

A lovely variety is used here to "soften" the look in various spots around the room.

Hopefully, you can easily see how such a simple accessory as a floral arrangement can truly "soften" the table-top and make it much more 'easy on the eye'...and help bring an inviting feeling into the room.  Stay tuned for more tips in Part 2 of our series to help you "soften" your table-tops.

Easter Tablescape Ideas

Can you believe it is Easter already?  Even with it being celebrated a little later this year I still can't believe it's here. Today I thought we'd share a few tablescape ideas for those of you that may be hosting an Easter meal this year.  Enjoy!

Bring out some of your pretty china for color and personality! Snip some foliage right out of your own yard to use in a vase or teapot.  Then, throw in some colored eggs with a few sprigs of the foliage to display in a beautiful bowl.

Ah...the simplicity of just white!

Layered, eclectic dishes...and even a bunny if you have one to use.

I just love this blue and white themed table! You can create one very similar to it for your own celebration dinner. Start by using a lovely tablecloth or even a pretty sheet will do the trick. Then layer some different dishes to create this eclectic look. Have some fun now and make some of those sparkling glitter eggs...come on, you DO remember how to color eggs don't you? Now just pick up a few fresh flowers to use and some inexpensive glassware, dishes and candlesticks....and vwa-la...you have it.  And remember, if blue isn't your color favorite, you can do this in any color!

Here's an inspiration just in case you plan to have it outside this year. It's always easy to use what you have to put together a welcoming tablescape.

What a creative idea using tissue paper grass and topped with glasses of jelly beans...I love it!

Great use of bold colors...orange, hot pink, and a pop of aqua! I think this makes for a "happy" table.

This is a simple and modern flair for an Easter table. The bright ribbon run across the table and the bright colored eggs, displayed in various size bowls, makes this a fun and inviting table.
