Art and...Books?

I hope each of you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.  How did you spend it?

What does art and...books have in common?  Not a lot but they sure can look good together.  Are you wondering what in the world I mean by this?  Take a look...

I just adore hanging artwork to the front of bookcases like this.  It sort of makes the books fade into the background a bit all while giving the bookcases a real focal point.

Another one

Even a mirror will work.  I really like this round one since all the bookcase cubbies are square.

Even more interesting using art along with a bookcase that is wallpapered in the back.  Lovely!

bookshelf with art
Pretty snazzy too adding art to a painted bookcase back...love these bold colors (and notice the artwork doesn't even have bright colors).

So...what's the verdict?  Do YOU like using artwork on the front of bookcases?  Share your thoughts if you'd like...we'd love to know.

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Simply Irresistible Designs for your Pets

Being the animal lover that I am...I am always intrigued by the many designs that are available for our precious pets.  They too are a part of our family and maybe should be considered in our plans for our room designs.  Here are a few ways to do just that!

Now, what little furry creature wouldn't love this spot for the day or perhaps the entire evening?
(Available here)

If you really want to pamper that special little dog or cat then you must invest in this canopy bed...what a life of luxury for them and sure to make them feel safe and secure!
(Available here)

What do you think of this ghost bed as I call it...it's really a part of the invisible collection by Petbitat.  I love this idea for that modern spin on design. Look, even pet dishes to match!  This is a great choice when you want that special spot for your pet but maybe don't want it to be so obvious in the room.
(Available here)

Decorative Dog Bed
A wicker bed is also a great choice since it goes well with many room styles.  This one here is also easily cleaned with soap and water as it won't absorb moisture of any kind.  Ah, I just love it!
(Available here)

Mahogany Sleigh Pet Bed
For a more traditional flair how about this sleigh bed for your special pet?  I love the custom bedding for this too and I'm sure it's available in many other styles as well...even a bolster pillow!  How stylish is that!  What more could our little best friends want?
(Available here)

And I, of course, couldn't leave out this cute choice.  Oh-la-la!  How special my own poodle would feel in this...except, she's a bit of a tom-boy, so I may have to reconsider! Isn't it adorable?
(Available here)

How about a stylish Victorian iron bed to work in with your own decor...isn't this one a great look too?  I think so far this is MY favorite!
(Available here)

Last, but not least, here we have a unique vintage suitcase designed into a little safe-haven for your pets. Now this is creative, wouldn't you say and what a conversation piece this would be in your home! Is this a style that you could live with?
(Available here)

I admit...I could go on forever, but I won't.  I love to pamper my little furry friends (and I have four of them!) so much that I even get teased about it many times.  They are definitely a special part of my family!  As for you other animal lovers out there...which is your favorite style?  Do you have one in your home already?  Would you consider making this change for your furry friend?  I'd love to know!

Thanks so much for visiting our blog today and be sure to...

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Softening Your Table-Tops Part 3

Glad you could make it back for more ideas on table-top softening.  If you missed the first two parts be sure to take a moment and read about those tips too.  Who knows, you may just have a few tables in your home that are in need of a little "softening" right now.

Today...we start with moss spheres.  These are really hot right now and work great to bring a little "softening" to your table-tops. They come in a variety of sizes so I'm sure you can find the right sizes you need.  Smaller ones like these can be put in one of your lovely bowls (even in colorful porcelain bowls) and displayed on one of your tables.

Or just simply place one atop a stack of books...

Then...the large ones can be displayed just free-standing like these here on the bottom shelf.  I know the top has a floral which softens it, but these spheres do the trick on the bottom...can you tell?  It just has a "softer" flow about it.  I think these are great!

Now let's go ahead and give you another "softening" tip...did you know that adding fabric benches under your tables can also do the trick...well, take a look.  Now, I know this table does have some greenery to soften it, but I wanted to use it to show you that the fabrics also soften the effect. What do you think?

Here's one without any floral or greenery...only hard surfaces.  See how the fabric does indeed soften the entire area?

And now this one to end our series on softening your table-tops...this one has three of the softening "tricks of the trade" all put together.  The floral (or here...greenery), a sphere (even though it isn't a moss sphere) and upholstered benches under the table....all of which make for great ways to "soften" any table. Oh, and we could certainly add a lovely tassel to this bust...or just lay it around the base of it...and then we'd have all four  of our "softening tips!  Don't ya think that would add a bit of flair to him too? Yes, I could see it!

I certainly hope we have given you a few simple tips that you can try in your home. Let us know if you have a favorite that you use!

Be blessed and have a...

Etsy Finds...

Happy Wednesday! My week has been amazing as I have accomplished so much this week....and it's only Wednesday!  Speaking of amazing...do you ever look at your room and notice those flat-out "ugly" light switch plates that stick out like a sore thumb?  Well, take a look at what I have found...

Aren't these just the coolest things! Most of these light switch plate covers are actually recycled from books and magazines. The image is applied and then layers of deco podge is added for durability... what a great idea!  And the best part is they are only around $10 (well, I believe the first one is $15).  Keep in mind, for any of you DIY'ers out there...this can be done with fabric and wallpaper too.  Want to give it a try?  Or perhaps, you may prefer to just head on over to Etsy to browse through their huge selection. I think you will be amazed at all of the designs available.  Here's to FUN shopping today with light switch plate covers!  Enjoy!

In Love with "Lucite"

As recently put from House Beautiful..."Every designer will tell you: Just one piece of clear acrylic furniture will shake up any room in any style. It's the one-piece makeover...".  I must say, the more I see the use of lucite the more I am in love with it.  It was not something I ever imagined that "I" would incorporate into my own home, but now I do believe I would indeed. Let's take a look at how this can be uniquely used in our rooms...

Don't you just love this look? It does not crowd the room, even though it's large and is accessorized "to the max".

Let's see what other lucite "finds" we have for you...

I do believe I could make room for any one of these pieces in my home...how about you? Before you decide, take a look at a few more rooms that have included some lucite.

These ghost chairs are actually quite popular for office chairs...and how chic with this rug!

How about this lovely desk used by New York designer, Jamie Drake...who, by the way, is known as the "king of color"... and he even uses lucite in his designs. I think it even enhances the pops of color all the more!

Lucite just seems to add something to a room...but then again, it's clear...so how can that be? Oh, and the other good thing...it coordinates with just about anything!

So now, how about you...are you now ready to add a piece into your decor?  Let me know your thoughts!

Make it a "Simply Irresistible" Day!
