Designs of Royalty

With this being the day of the Royal Wedding I thought we'd take a look into the royalty of the Goring Hotel in London. This is where the bride and her family are staying right up until time for the wedding today.

The Goring is the finest of hotels, located in the heart of London, with the most intimate of atmospheres and personalized attention. It has been called a true "Baby Grand". It is here that every member of the team takes great pride in offering the highest level of personal service. Those staying here can certainly enjoy the elegant accommodations, the tranquility of private Gardens, a magnificent Lounge Bar and Dining Room where they will find only the best of British food.  Founded and built in 1910 this hotel has now been celebrated for over a century.

Amazing Interior Design... with Charlotte Moss

With her extraordinary flair for style, Charlotte Moss has led a celebrated career in interior design after leaving corporate life with Wall Street (yes, Wall Street).  Not only is she well known for her designs, but has also authored seven books and has a collection of her own product designs in fabric, rugs, accessories, furniture, etc. She is truly one talented lady...and today we'll be taking a look at some of her gracefully created designs.

I simply love the way she separated each area of this small unit in Manhattan into two livable spaces.  Not only was this done with flooring and furniture, but take a look at that see-through screen.  This is a great way to show separation, yet it doesn't close the room in at all. I love all the fun colors she used together too.

Take a close up view of those shelves she used on one end of the dining room.  This was a great way to be able to display personables without having to take up floor space with a piece of furniture. Very tastefully done...as always with her designs!

Here is one wall of the living room.  I simply love how she has mixed green (and I do believe these are chairs by William Sonoma), yellow (book on bottom of table), peach, and then blue in this antique mirror and also in the framed prints.  Oh, and how about the diorama between the two lamps?

The other end of the living room is seemingly larger than it really is by using two large oil paintings on the walls mounted all the way up (and with lighting to boot!). The height is actually what takes your eye up to make the area seem larger.  A beautiful Schumacher fabric is showcased on the sofas surrounded by pops of more yellow, pink and green.

Here are the pops of yellow and green on the dining room side...and I love the brown leather chairs in here.

Wow...and in this small space she even uses a Niermann Weeks bed like this which is simply stunning, I think.  The bed and the window treatments are draped with a beautiful toile fabric from Fabricut.

Here we have a close up of the seating area just on the other side of the bed.  Again...what a great use of this small space!

What do you think of this armoire? I love it and with these darker blue panels of fabric, blue chairs, more blues in the art and then topped off with the blue and white ceramic urns...well, let's just say it all works together and it is certainly..."Simply Irresistible".

Now another one of Charlotte's designs with nothing but simplicity...and elegance, of course.  I love this gray and red color scheme in this study she did. The red is popped only in the books...great idea to showcase a little flare of color somewhere!
What's not to love about this one? Again, elegant, yet simple, right down to the details. She states that she "believes in the personal treasures that make a room more individual, more beautiful, more alive".

Charlotte Moss Decorates

For more incredible designs by Charlotte Moss, her most
recent book is now available and houses over 200 photos.  A
great way to spend a week-end...soaking up lots of design
inspiration from historic houses to her exotic travels and her
unique touches that make each room so special!  Her book,
Charlotte Moss Decorates, is available at www.amazon.com.

I hope you have enjoyed taking a look into the design style of Charlotte Moss today. Now, you go...make it a"Simply Irresistible" Day!

Silhouettes in Room Design

Silhouettes...I bet this is something most everyone is familiar with, right? I remember the first time I ever saw a silhouette (and didn't even know what it was at the time).  I was a young teenager and we were at Disney World where I saw an artist drawing the profile of his customers. Then, at my amazement, the artist would fill in the profile with color. I stopped and watched for quite awhile because I found it to be a fascinating concept. I just had to have mine done...so I did.

A silhouette is defined as a drawing of something, especially a human profile, filled in with a solid color.  You have most likely seen them on stationary of some sort or perhaps on jewelry. Let's take a look today at how these unique drawings even have a part to play in interior design.

How about this...they can even be found on clothing!

Even on dishes...

Silhouettes of our family members are a popular find in interior design.

They can be displayed in various ways...

Don't limit yourself to wall hanging alone...these make great displays in cabinets and on table tops as well.

Even a few "propped" on the mantel is a great addition.

There are many silhouette patterns available now-a-days in the wonderful world of wallpaper.  Aren't they lovely? A great look for any area.

Here is another great wallpaper...animal silhouettes... by Osborne and Little (available at osborneandlittle.com).

How about adding a flair to the back of a chair...

...or even a pillow?

And here we have it not only in the photos to the sides of this window, but it's on the fabric itself.

Keep in mind, a silhouette is a drawing of "anything" that is filled in with color...so these damask fabrics (from osborneandlittle.com) are also considered a "silhouette".  We just seem to think of them as only a human profile...but, as you can see, that's certainly not the case.

So remember...a little (or a lot) of color can be added in... even with the use of these lovely silhouettes around your room.

Enjoy your day and be sure to make it...
"Simply Irresistible"!

In Love with "Lucite"

As recently put from House Beautiful..."Every designer will tell you: Just one piece of clear acrylic furniture will shake up any room in any style. It's the one-piece makeover...".  I must say, the more I see the use of lucite the more I am in love with it.  It was not something I ever imagined that "I" would incorporate into my own home, but now I do believe I would indeed. Let's take a look at how this can be uniquely used in our rooms...

Don't you just love this look? It does not crowd the room, even though it's large and is accessorized "to the max".

Let's see what other lucite "finds" we have for you...

I do believe I could make room for any one of these pieces in my home...how about you? Before you decide, take a look at a few more rooms that have included some lucite.

These ghost chairs are actually quite popular for office chairs...and how chic with this rug!

How about this lovely desk used by New York designer, Jamie Drake...who, by the way, is known as the "king of color"... and he even uses lucite in his designs. I think it even enhances the pops of color all the more!

Lucite just seems to add something to a room...but then again, it's clear...so how can that be? Oh, and the other good thing...it coordinates with just about anything!

So now, how about you...are you now ready to add a piece into your decor?  Let me know your thoughts!

Make it a "Simply Irresistible" Day!
