FUN Client Challenge - Progress Update #2

Thanks for stopping by again today!  I thought I'd now share with you the design styles we are using for this entire house of custom window treatments that we decided to share with you.  Want to see?  We are excited that you can go through the process with us!

Great Room
Just ignore any additional 'notes' you may see on sketches for our workroom!

Dining Room - except not using trim in here

 Master Bedroom - Bay Area
Shown here with Cascades UNDER swags (give my clients the choice!)
Again, ignore our 'ramblings' with the sketches please!

How it will look on their window...with choice of Cascades OVER the swags...which, by the way, is the 'look' she likes best so this is what it will be.

 Single Window in Master Bedroom

 "His"  Home Office

 Laundry Room
Colors in fabric really don't show up well here

Kitchen

 Guest Bathroom
This is Indoor-Outdoor Fabric because this is a window INSIDE of the shower.

 Guest Bedroom -1
We will decide this week IF using trim or not - she isn't sure yet if she wants it or not.

 Guest Bedroom - 2
These draperies will be shorter as they will hang down to the window ledge behind the leather headboard she has...see below (yes, greenery that's there will GO!).  We will have cream bedding and pop this fabric above again with a custom dust ruffle and a couple pillows on the bed...FUN pattern!

That's it all except for the Master Bathroom sketch, which I have saved in a program that won't let me download to this and I just don't have the time to re-save this morning!  Sorry, but hopefully you'll get to see the finished window treatments in the end.  Now, we are pricing the job, selecting the hardware (depends on finishes and projections needed, etc.) and then we'll move on to...all the purchasing of the fabrics....work-orders for the workroom with all the gazillion details, etc.....!  There is NEVER a dull moment around here, that is for sure!  We LOVE what we do!

We hope you will be back for more on this design project.  I thought this would be a great time to show you this stage of the process since we've been talking about how window treatments 'soften' our rooms....no doubt!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Adding Texture to Your Room

Happy Saturday dear readers!  Hopefully you are enjoying a slower pace to the start of your day since it's weekend.  The rain in coming down, I have coffee in hand...and time to blog a bit.  What could be better?  My passion is interior design and I love working with every single client that comes our way.  Blogging is a little different "spin" on design for me since most all of our projects are truly custom in nature.  The time we spend with all of the "details" is incredible, but worth it in the end to see the expressions of our clients when they walk into their re-created finished rooms.  But, for today...I can lay aside all of those "details"...and BLOG!

I know by now you've heard and seen alot about the topic of adding texture to your rooms, right?  This can be done in many ways, but for today we will talk about one of the ways....

WITH BAMBOO SHADES

This is a great look whether in a formal room...or in a very casual room...or a fun, whimsical room. Honestly, they work just about anywhere.  So there, that will solve the question..."but will these work in my room?"

These shades can be used with, or without, drapery panels.  I for one love the WITH draperies since it tends to look "softer".  But, either way is fine and just a personal choice really.

I really like how these shades and draperies were hung all the way up.  It adds such height and flair to the room.  So, remember to think outside the box when you install...can you mount them up higher to visually enlarge YOUR room?

In this lovely dining room, the bamboo shades are what we call "outside mounted" (meaning they are mounted outside of the window trim).  These were not mounted way up, but the draperies were installed a bit higher, which still makes the room feel higher.  Isn't this a gorgeous room, by the way?

Here is a much more casual dining nook.  These shades are actually close in color to the hardwood floors...ta da...what a great look!

These make great shades for an office too...and without the panels.

Another room without panels...and I especially love the wicker used in this room with the shades (basket, chairs, tables - more texture!).  This room has a great overall "feel"...don't you agree?

OK, enough said...now for a "Before" and "After" photo to show you just how much these lovely textured bamboo shades can add to a room...ready?

How do YOU feel about these shades?  Do you like or dislike?  Could you make this change in YOUR home to give it a new "feel"?  We'd love to know your thoughts!

Make it a "Simply Irresistible" Saturday!

Room Design Peek

Remember our client's red and blue guest bedroom we designed and installed turn-key recently, here?  We are in the midst of doing her other guest bedroom so I thought I'd share a sneak-peek of this room design with you today.

Guest Bedroom

Keep in mind, we have to "pop" a little red in this room as well to keep the "flow" between these two bedrooms...and the guest bathroom that is between these two rooms (we'll share that with you later this week perhaps!).  There are two windows on either side of the bed.  The panel draperies will be on the outside of each window only...to frame that entire wall where she has the iron piece as a headboard (this was already in her room).  The bedding will be custom-made from these fabrics...however, the pillows will not be exactly as on this design.  There will be another euro sham made out of the blue bedding and then we are custom designing a bolster pillow combining three fabrics (blue, cream and a little red).  I just put this red one in for board purposes only. You can see a few other "pops" of red in this room that we will incorporate as well.  Actually, this red throw will go on a chair we are having made in yet another creamy fabric (with a leaf print) to give it a little added color.  Oh, and yes, there will be a small TV in this room for the guest so this chest will be the perfect addition for it, as well as a little extra storage in the room.  As for the artwork...we are still "playing", if you will, for the exact pieces we want to showcase.  Two choices are on the board here as possible options.  Again, it's not complete...just the "bones" of the room and the bedding.  The accessories will come last, but we'll be sure to share photos with you once it's all completely installed.

Now...for the real tangible inspiration board that we created for our client...(who is local)
As you can see...on the right side we included a few samples from the other guest bedroom that we did...and the stripe in the center is from the bathroom in between these two rooms...and all the other items were possibilities for this new room.  As you can tell, we've already changed the lamp!  She wanted to pop a little more red in this room too...which we were indeed going to do in a few accessory pieces anyway...we aim to please!  The chair will not be in this red fabric...see more on that below (just this style).

Also, here's our graphic layouts of this room that we originally presented to our client...(her carpet IS blue, by the way).

Remember, this bolster will really be out of three fabrics and have much less red on it than this one here.

The chair is this style, but will not be this white.  The exact fabric was not yet chosen when these designs were created.  It will be a creme-on-cream leafy pattern that blends well with the tones in the other cream fabric in the room....just FYI.
Also, this wall is a bit larger than shown here and the chest will go flush against the wall (not turned as shown).  Then, our client has lots of framed pictures she wanted to use somewhere so we plan to go through them and do a gallery wall over this chest and on this wall.  Sort of like this idea below...

This will look really nice and fill in that wall behind the chair too.

Here is one of the pictures we are deliberating over using in here...just one option though.  Flowers shown on the garden seat...just for "softening" purposes on here.

And here was the floorplan of this room to give her an idea of furniture placement.

So...I hope you enjoyed our Room Design Peek today.  We will post the full room reveal once it's completed.  All furniture, fabrics, lamps, etc are already on order so hopefully we will install everything by the end of October.  The custom items all take about 4-6 weeks...but we are excited about presenting the final products to our client...who, by the way, is an absolute delight to work with.  That makes our job even all the "merrier"!  Right?

If you'd like for us to design YOUR next room...just comment on the blog and we'll get back with you on all the details and pricing.

Here's to a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Fabulous Friday Finds

Can you believe another week has rolled around again so quickly?  I just love Fridays, don't you?  I have a stunning, yet simple, "Friday Find" for you today...one that I think you will love.

Need a headboard...or a mock headboard, I should say?  Try this...

Ten Everyday Items in Unexpected Places

How about using a drapery rod and either a drapery panel or a shower curtain (yea, shower curtain, believe it or not!) behind your bed.  Voila, then you have a stunning headboard / back drop.  I really liked this one here with the writing on it...and the pop of color being so dramatic.  This makes for a good look, don't ya think?  Oh, and the best part...it's a Homegoods find.  I just love that store!

And for a little more traditional look...

How about this beautiful pleated drapery behind the bed...gorgeous!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Friday!

Inspiration

Once we know what sort of "mood" we want in our room we can then begin the hunt...for inspiration!  Even as a designer, I find myself needing some inspiration photos in order to scale down my oh-so-many choices.  For instance, in my dining room I have walls this color...(doesn't look quite as "pink" as on here)

SW6587 Valentine
SW6587 Valentine

In the foyer area I have this color...
SW6380 Humble Gold

And if this Humble Gold doesn't look YELLOW to you...then it isn't showing up as the true color!!  On my screen it looks tan...and it is so NOT!  It's a lovely yellow gold.

Where I am in need of inspiration is for my dining room drapery panels...stationary panels only...on each side of my two windows.  Today was my lucky day because I ran across this...

I think this two-tone stripe would be perfect in there! Love them!! I knew I wanted to bring in the yellow-gold somehow and I love the idea of using it with fabric that has the wall color too...voila!  And you know what?  This photo looks almost like the "true" colors in my rooms!  That's why it's always a good idea to test paint colors before painting an entire room by a chip...with Color to Go.  The chips I found to use here (above) don't really look a thing like my rooms!  There is a drastic difference...and I know monitor resolution has a lot to do with it too!  Oh well.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...but I do believe this may be a keeper!

What about YOU...have you found any great inspiration recently?

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!
Ta-Ta!

I hope your week is as beautiful as these new fabrics...

Amazing Interior Design... with Charlotte Moss

With her extraordinary flair for style, Charlotte Moss has led a celebrated career in interior design after leaving corporate life with Wall Street (yes, Wall Street).  Not only is she well known for her designs, but has also authored seven books and has a collection of her own product designs in fabric, rugs, accessories, furniture, etc. She is truly one talented lady...and today we'll be taking a look at some of her gracefully created designs.

I simply love the way she separated each area of this small unit in Manhattan into two livable spaces.  Not only was this done with flooring and furniture, but take a look at that see-through screen.  This is a great way to show separation, yet it doesn't close the room in at all. I love all the fun colors she used together too.

Take a close up view of those shelves she used on one end of the dining room.  This was a great way to be able to display personables without having to take up floor space with a piece of furniture. Very tastefully done...as always with her designs!

Here is one wall of the living room.  I simply love how she has mixed green (and I do believe these are chairs by William Sonoma), yellow (book on bottom of table), peach, and then blue in this antique mirror and also in the framed prints.  Oh, and how about the diorama between the two lamps?

The other end of the living room is seemingly larger than it really is by using two large oil paintings on the walls mounted all the way up (and with lighting to boot!). The height is actually what takes your eye up to make the area seem larger.  A beautiful Schumacher fabric is showcased on the sofas surrounded by pops of more yellow, pink and green.

Here are the pops of yellow and green on the dining room side...and I love the brown leather chairs in here.

Wow...and in this small space she even uses a Niermann Weeks bed like this which is simply stunning, I think.  The bed and the window treatments are draped with a beautiful toile fabric from Fabricut.

Here we have a close up of the seating area just on the other side of the bed.  Again...what a great use of this small space!

What do you think of this armoire? I love it and with these darker blue panels of fabric, blue chairs, more blues in the art and then topped off with the blue and white ceramic urns...well, let's just say it all works together and it is certainly..."Simply Irresistible".

Now another one of Charlotte's designs with nothing but simplicity...and elegance, of course.  I love this gray and red color scheme in this study she did. The red is popped only in the books...great idea to showcase a little flare of color somewhere!
What's not to love about this one? Again, elegant, yet simple, right down to the details. She states that she "believes in the personal treasures that make a room more individual, more beautiful, more alive".

Charlotte Moss Decorates

For more incredible designs by Charlotte Moss, her most
recent book is now available and houses over 200 photos.  A
great way to spend a week-end...soaking up lots of design
inspiration from historic houses to her exotic travels and her
unique touches that make each room so special!  Her book,
Charlotte Moss Decorates, is available at www.amazon.com.

I hope you have enjoyed taking a look into the design style of Charlotte Moss today. Now, you go...make it a"Simply Irresistible" Day!
