Model Home Tour Day

I wanted to share some pictures I took of some model home decorating back awhile ago.  I simply LOVE to tour model homes, do you?  I enjoy seeing the work of others and I almost always walk away inspired...and maybe even with a few new ideas!

Feel free to grab some coffee or tea and join me on this random tour here...

I take no credit for the decorating in these homes and I have no clue 'who' did these.  When we've done models we always are sure to put our name in there somewhere.  So, no credits for the work are given here and that's why.

A cute little home office for two

Now, on to a different model home...

Nice open space here, isn't it?

Here is one of those spots in the model that I walked away with inspiring new ideas!  I thought this was indeed lovely!

Nice, huh?

Cozy in the master bedroom

Placed at the foot of the bed was this!

Guest bathroom...love the custom shower curtain in wide stripes!

A wall in one of the guest bedrooms...bet some of you fabulous DIY'rs will  may be all over this adorable little idea...any grandparents touring with us today?  I just loved this little creative touch!

The corner of that same room

And if that isn't cute enough...the bed is a BOAT!

Personally, I'm not too keen on wall niches, but I found this one to be nicely done with the accent color on the wall and some accessories above the entertainment center to add the needed height.  What about YOU? Do you like niches?  How do decorate them?

That ends the tour for today, but I hope you'll come back tomorrow because we're going on another model home tour...with some great ideas that you won't want to miss.  See you then!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Wacky Wednesday - Room Fun

Isn't is so hard to believe that summer is officially coming to an end after this weekend?  But, believe it or not, I am ready!  This is not usually the case with me.  I love summer so that I always hate to say goodbye.

In working with designs in orange and aqua, I came across this inspirational photo here.  It reminded me of something that I was discussing with one of our designers this week.  There are some room designs that we just "know" when we need to add in an element of fun.  We call it the "conversation piece in the room".  It can be 'off the wall'...as long as it works with the other designs in the room.  We LOVE it when we can do this...and we try to as often as possible...depending upon the client's style/taste/hobby, etc.  The clients always love this!

I'm sure by now you know what it is in this room that caught my attention, right?  Yes, the orange and aqua elephant on the wall.  Isn't it great!!  It works, it truly does and it just makes this room (my opinion, of course).  All of the elements work well together and it gives this room a little more personality.

What elements of FUN have you perhaps added into your rooms to give it a little more flair?  Come one, share with us please! Right now, we are working with a client that loves dogs (and, has several) so we are looking at "dog fabrics" for an accent chair...yes, we really are! Oh, and in a guest bedroom...to have monkey themed art on one wall...yes, please!  A very unexpected "look" and a big hit with the guests staying over.

Thanks for stopping by and...

Forgotten? ...Never!

Hello once again sweet readers!  I certainly hope you didn't think that we forgot you...we have just been slammed with design projects of all sorts.  As you know, work comes before blog-land, so that is where we've been!  We hope to soon have some before and after photos to share, some new design image boards that are in the works, and some of the great products we'll be using...so stay tuned.

Since it is Friday (again, already!!) I thought I'd just share with you some artwork that I have been admiring for my own design project...my house!
Close this window

If you recall, my own color scheme includes Sherwin Williams "Valentine"

and "Humble Gold" (which is SO much more yellow/gold than this shows on my resolution!)
(The color on my walls radiates the color of yellow in the above artwork-so if yours doesn't show this, then you are being deceived by technology - Ha!)

And then there is the "green monsters" I am working to move OUT of the house...and enter...turquoise blue shades (sea inspired, of course!).  Want to hear a funny not so funny story...I do not like green AT ALL...yet my house is was filled with it!!!  Why, you may ask.  Honestly, it's because my life was WAY to busy for ME when we were making selections for this home.  It was and I never had the needed focus and time to just really think (and design) something that I would be happy with in the long run.  In such a hurry as to meet the time crunches with subcontractors, and not knowing what furnishings/upholstery I would be using (i.e. NO DESIGN PLAN FOR MYSELF!!) I just gave in and picked something...even though one color was one I did not like at all....thus, the "green monsters"!

I guess the lesson in all of this, even though I've had an interior design business for 26 years, we all need...a PLAN!  It can save plenty of money, headaches, disappointments, etc...in the long run!

So, in my mission (a slow one) that is why I've been seriously considering adding in these prints somewhere.  The colors are perfect...I love flowers...and they make me happy!

So, what design mistakes have YOU made along the way? Are there any?  Are you in the process of making them right?  We'd love to know!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Weekend!
Ta-Ta!

Hi Everyone!

I have been "MIA" for a few days now!  Between client projects and home renovations of our own...the blog time has just dwindled away.  I miss it and hope you do too!  Please be patient and we'll be back to share more.

I hope your week is as beautiful as these new fabrics...

More posts to come soon...stay tuned!

Spring Cleaning!

Would you like a Spring Cleaning Checklist?  Sometimes our Spring cleaning can seem WAY overwhelming...right?  Maybe this can help simplify and make it easier to get the job done.

Spring Cleaning Checklist

The idea of spring cleaning can be refreshing and pretty daunting at the same time. The thought of cleaning your home from top to bottom while targeting every dusty and questionable corner isn’t one most people smile about, but the result leaves you feeling pretty accomplished.
Spring Cleaning is a large-scale task, and most people want to start with the kitchen or the garage. But, I’ve found that it’s better to start small, building your momentum. There are some tasks you can do to prep every room. Cleaning a high traffic area with a low traffic area helps you take on the task in manageable chunks.
Here’s a checklist for putting a dent in that spring cleaning. This first group of areas you’ll tackle in this three part spring cleaning list will be the living areas, dining room and small tasks for every room.
Living Areas
Clean furniture with a vacuum cleaner
Rearrange furniture, cleaning under and behind it
Clear out and wipe drawers, cabinets and book shelves
Dining Room
Wipe and polish table tops and buffet tops
Polish display silver
Wipe down crystal, china and other ceramic display items
Clear and wipe out drawers, china cabinets
Every Room
Dust walls, ceilings, corners and vents
Dust & wipe photographs, decorations and ceiling fans
Spot clean the walls
Wash drapes and rugs
Wipe windows and window sills. Caulk if needed
Vacuum and shampoo the carpet
Polish anything metal
Wax anything wooden
Get re-organized using boxes for donations, recycling and trash
Turn rugs the opposite direction for even wearing

This checklist was provided by a wonderful friend and real estate professional (here).  If you are interested in NC coastal property then be sure to check out her website!  She's everything you could need or
want in a realtor...impeccable service! (Thanks Susan for sharing this                        with us!)

So, here's to happy spring cleaning...and in the process be sure to ...

Make it a "Simply Irresistible" Day!
