I thought this was a beautiful room done in all neutrals...but then, even a dash of soft pink (my fave, of course!) changes it.
Not only the color of soft goods and accessories, but also the wood finish on furniture effects the mood of a room.
Colors in a rug even change the entire feeling in a room.
This room here would feel even 'lighter' or more 'airy' if the rug were not as dark...imagine...like the rug below...
More color...more changes in the mood.
A little tip I learned long ago, even to use on myself, is to get samples of fabrics, wood samples, rug (even a catalog or brochure - or print if off the website), tables, sofas, chairs, etc...and put it all on a design board. Then, believe it or not, you can then FEEL how your room will sort of 'feel' when it's completed. It really works! We do this for our clients (because let's face it, they usually can't imagine)...and for ourselves if it's an entire room.
Here is an example of one we did for a client (may have shown you this one before with the Room Reveal). The fabrics to the far right are in her guest bedroom #1 and the stripe in the middle is in the bathroom that adjoins the two bedrooms...the rest of the board are the selections for guest bedroom #2...and it shows her how all of the rooms will flow together, but yet be distinctively different from one another. When she looked at the board...she could actually 'feel" the mood of the room and see what it would look like.
If you cannot imagine...then it's well worth it to take the time to do one of these for yourself.
So what is YOUR color? What mood or style is YOUR preference in a room? Do you use design boards for yourself?
Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!
