Homeowner Inspired by the Sea

I certainly hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.  I surely did! Of course I don't think I ever really take time off from searching for lovely things to bring to the blog...even on holidays.  It is relaxing and I enjoy it so much that I never seem to stop!

Today I just had to share with you some great photos from a homeowner that decorated her home so tastefully, yet livable, and actually got her inspiration from the sea! Take a look at how each room reflects her love of what she was intrigued by...the spectrum of colors from the blue water and sky, the neutrals of the sand and driftwood, the white from the shells, etc. These photos were showcased in last month's issue of  Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. I just fell in love when I saw them...and I hope you will enjoy! (Oh, the photos run over just a bit, but I wanted to enlarge them so you could better see the details of each room.)

Beth Elsey, this homeowner, has certainly accomplished the charm in her Georgian style home with simplicity, yet style and elegance...and indeed a bit of that Southern charm. You can also easily see the display of balance and symmetry in each room in her choice and placement of the accessories. I just found it all to be "Simply Irresistible"! It is evident that her inspiration came from the childhood time spent at the beach, as she explains in the article. She says this dictated the direction for decorating her home.  It definitely has all the ingredients to reflect a calming ambiance... wouldn't you agree?

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Simple Times

Are you taking a "break" from it all this holiday weekend? No matter what you choose to do ...keep it simple...and enjoy yourself!

Perhaps you'll sleep in a bit...

Or find that special spot to sit and dive into a favorite book you've had no time to read...

Have you been waiting to have time just to soak in a hot bubble-bath?  Ah...THIS could be just the weekend to do that!

Maybe it's a "little" coastal retreat you need...

Perhaps just some fun shopping time with friends...

No matter what it is you choose to do...be sure to

make it a "Simply Irresistible" Memorial Day weekend!

 See you next week!

Malibu Birthday Blast...

With today being a special day (well, for ME anyway) I thought I'd show you a fabulous birthday party bash. It was that of Barbie's...to celebrate her 50th birthday. Renowned designer, Jonathan Adler, decorated the Malibu beach house using his signature bright colors with bold patterns...and, of course, he emphasized her love of PINK (sound familiar?).

And to top that off...look at this amazing PINK closet...filled to the brim with PINK shoes.  I'd say it surely does look like it's fashioned for Barbie herself, wouldn't you?

Decorative Wall Accessories - Barbie Malibu House
You've just got to love this wall decor made with Barbie...lots of Barbies!  How creative!  Wouldn't you have loved to just go through this beach house to see it all up close and personal?  I surely would!

So, there, you have it...a "Simply Irresistible" birthday Malibu beach house in honor of Barbie.  I must admit that I grew up playing with Barbie...did you?  However, for my special day today (OK, yes, it's my birthday!) I won't have a retreat like this to celebrate in, but I will be taking the day off (the whole day!) to enjoy.  My mom is taking my son and me to lunch, then I may do a little shopping perhaps, and then dinner and birthday cake tonight with my hubby and son.  I grew up absolutely loving, I mean loving, birthday cake!  Not just any birthday cake, but those made by a special bakery in my home town. Well, I haven't had one from there is years...so my son has ordered me a special one just for today from the fabulous Sweet Shoppe Bakery.  Isn't that so sweet of him? I know my day will be blessed!

I hope you have a "Simply Irresistible" Day as well.
Ta-Ta!

Custom Window Treatments

Since we've been talking about custom window treatments, today I will show you a few random jobs we have done for clients. I know we enjoyed creating these designs to make the room exactly what our clients wanted.

A close-up of the above...

Monkeys galore...yep, it is monkey fabric...with contrasting lining that shows when it's rolled up!

Lots of stationary drapery panels here...large rings used on top.

This was for a huge wall of windows also.  We used a mix of stationary panels and roman topper valances. There is another window on far end that is treated just like this one on the left.

Simple...yet stunning...and just installed on a tension rod. There is trim on the bottom, but you can't see it well here.

And this one I SO enjoyed designing...the solid fabric has a silken sheen to it that shimmers with two different colors depending on where you stand and the lighting in the room. Oh, did I mention they are also "puddled" on the floor!

The other wall in the same room (a little dark, but I wanted to show you) with same treatment, but for single windows designed with knots on the inside ends.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of our custom window treatment designs.  I know they are a true investment, but I believe they make such an impact in your rooms and will be worth it each and every time you walk into that "space" in your home.

Thanks for stopping by and have a...
"Simpy Irresistible" Day!

Custom Drapery Panels with a Flair

I just adore dupioni silk drapery panels. They create such a look of elegance especially when puddled on the floor slightly. Notice the extra details here with the header style and the buttons at the top.
Around Your Home

Here we have another of my favorites in drapery panels. I like to add an attached valance with trim on the bottom.  This layered effect is still simple yet it adds a little more "oomph" to the room.  In this photo it also has an underneath treatment for privacy...and again, the panels are puddled in the floor.

Here is yet another "fave" (remember...I simply LOVE doing custom window treatments!).  Contrast banding added to the panels makes such a statement.  One band, or several, can make all the difference in the world on these....small, wide, or varied sizes.

Another fun way to add some pizazz to the other wise plain panels is with a whimsical border such as this scallop...
Colorful Window Treatments

Here's another fun way to enhance those windows...even without covering the windows.  Here, the fabric panels are just used to "soften" the area, but how fun to use a contrast print as the border.  I just love mixing it up a bit like this!
Window Treatments

I hope you enjoyed seeing a few drapery inspirations today that maybe give you a little "twist" on the standard panels.  Do you have custom drapery panels, maybe with a unique feature, in your home? It use to be that a lot of people wanted to get away from draperies as they were labeled as "dated"...but not any more...the have made a comeback! I'll be sharing more on some custom window treatments in the coming days...as it is one of my favorite projects in interior design. I just love a custom window treatment challenge...of any kind!

Have a "Simply Irresistible" Day!

Who Does This Home Belong To?

Have you laid eyes on the June issue of Architectural Digest yet?  If not, you are in for a real treat....guess who's new home is featured?  I won't tell you yet, but their former design style was known as "Contemporary Goth" - if you can imagine - being described by the home owner as having too many possessions (much like a furniture shop).  Since their children are grown and gone from home the couple decided to make a move.  They found their dream home and with the help of interior designer, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, their new home was completely transformed in style.  You will not believe whose home this is AFTER you see the photos.  I am "drooling" over the style, colors, mood and views of this lovely home. Take a peak...
What lovely leather porter's chairs in this amazing foyer!

The living room is painted in Benjamin Moore's Antique White, which as you know has been around for years...but look at the soft colors that were added.

Check out these great sliding barn doors...and I love that they incorporated a beautiful crystal chandelier with it - ooh la la!

Love the "pop" of purple in this fabulous dining room and of course everything else! You KNOW I simply love custom draperies...so I am admiring this soft puddled look here.

A little "vintage Americana" in the kitchen...check out the cash register on the island. Things of this sort, along with the animal weathervane ornaments, certainly do add a flair of personality to this space.  What's not to love!

Ok...now for some "hints" of who this home may belong to...take a close look as we venture upstairs. I'm sure you can already tell it must be someone of "fame"...with these representing the husband.

And now to showcase a little of "her" fame in this office space inside the home....hum...Grammy Awards found here!  Oh, back to design....don't you just love this mirrored desk?

This is the other side of her office with a cozy little retreat designed just for her...well, maybe not, maybe just this little Pomeranian, which by the way is one of their TWELVE dogs!  Don't you love these little ""pops" of fun color too.

And take a look at this stunning master bedroom...oh my goodness!  A mirrored four-postered bed and "unmatched" tables for night stands (a great look, by the way). The wallpaper in here is so absolutely gorgeous that there is no need to hang artwork on the walls...they speak for themselves.

Master Bath...just as stunning!

Now...remember I said I was also drooling over the VIEW... here's why...
Can you see why now?  Amazing isn't it?

Well, I have indeed just about shared most of the photos here with you (not quite all), but if you'd like to see more and read more you can click here for the article in Architectural Digest. But now....I just don't think you will EVER guess "whose" home this is...can you?  It is....are you sitting down?...Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne!  Their once, "contemporary goth" style is no more....and WHAT a transformation.  I definitely think this home is "Simply Irresistible" in every way. Kudos to their interior designer!!!

Now, go make this a..."Simply Irresistible" Day for yourself and others!
